Our Entrance Into Grace: Saved, Sealed, Secure

Ephesians 1:11-14 (KJV)

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:3-14 is one long sentence in the original Greek text. It is my favorite Bible statement because in it we see God lavishing the riches of his grace upon us through:

  1. The work of God the Father (vs 3-6)
  2. The work of God the Son (vs 7-12)
  3. The work of God the Spirit (vs 13-14)

How did you become a Christian? How did you enter into this incredible grace in which you now stand?

  1. God’s Perspective On How You Entered Grace (vv. 11-12)
    1. You were predestined... "being predestined"
    2. According to His purpose... "the purpose of him"
    3. Upheld by His power... "who worketh all things"
    4. For His praise... "to the praise of his glory"
  2. Your Perspective On How You Entered Grace (vv. 13-14)
    1. You heard the word of truth
    2. You trusted in Christ
    3. You were sealed by the Holy Spirit
      A seal does three things:
      1. It proves authenticity
      2. It points to ownership
      3. It provides security
